With a fresh crop of be-seen eateries and renovated nightclubs filling-up the hours after dark, Acapulco's most-famous hotel is a jet set comeback. Recreate your own Slim Aarons's style photo-op at the legendary Las Brisas, just don't zoom too terribly close or you might still see the obvious flaws. The recently renovated resort is nestled on a dramatic hillside overlooking Acapulco Bay accessed by private white jeeps that also chauffeurs guests to its seaside beach club. The main lobby features floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking the bay, as well as a few noticeable power lines that seem to corrupt the Mexican landscape. An in-house eatery as well as a lively outdoor bar attracts a mixed crowd of retired Midwesterners and big city globetrotters in Etro shorts with Pucci beach bags. The hotel offers an in-house gym that's very well equipped with modern cardio equipment and free weights, there's even a Pink Shop where you can buy casual gym attire just in case you forgot to pack yours. Days are spent either poolside or at the bay front beach club with its large freeform pool and diving platforms atop the wavy Pacific.

The Room

Rooms have been exorcized of their cottage cheese ceilings and flamingo-colored décor in lieu of white-minded minimalism with eclectic touches of ‘50s modernism like pink cubist-sofas and tulip chairs. Rooms vary in privacy with larger suites arranged in freestanding bungalows and smaller rooms in side-by-side villas that lack true outdoor privacy. Bathrooms are pretty from afar, but feature noticeable issues with caulking and overall aesthetic with its tumbled rock tubs and double basin sinks with faded porcelain. Prices are still reasonable despite being fashionable again, especially given the fact that all rooms feature private plunge pool and dramatic views overlooking the Pacific. Aside from booking well in advance at the in-house spa, don’t forget to bring your tennis racquet to serve-up against one of the sexy in-house instructors.
